Wait... There Was A Study In Where? China?

The China Study ended up becoming a book and then onto a few documentaries but it started as a study with T. Colin Campbell, Jacob Gould Schurman Professor Emeritus of Nutritional Biochemistry at Cornell University, and his son Thomas M. Campbell II, a physician. The study was to find out just how much correlation there was between animal product consumption and chronic illness such as heart disease, breast cancer and colon cancer.  The title of the book is taken from the study from China-Cornell-Oxford Project, a 20 year study that began in 1983 and was conducted jointly by the Chinese Academy of Preventive Medicine, Cornell University, and the University of Oxford.

The mortality rates in China were surveyed between 1983 and 1984. Between the years of 1973 to 1975 the researchers took 100 people from 65 countries in China and then compared their bloodwork. They concluded that the countries with the higher death rates were the ones that consumed more animal products. The opposite was true for the countries that ate more plant based foods.

The Reason For My Blog Name

Now that I've opened up about why I started eating this way and living on this wonderful new diet I just want to keep on writing and sharing things with you. I have so much to talk about. The reason why I titled it "The Healthy Raw Vegan" is because you can be a raw vegan all day long but if you're not eating the right foods then you can be just as unhealthy as the guy next door that's slamming burgers. I see it all the time, people eating cocao that's toxic and a stimulant, eating loads and loads of fat from avocados and nuts. That's too clogging to the arteries over time, even though it is a good fat, there is a limit. Also eating the fermented foods. I know that there is a lot of claim that they are good for us and this and that but I don't agree. I think that whatever good bacteria is on them won't make it past the gut to do any good anyway so it's a wasted effort. Also everything in moderation. The proteins and fats in moderation are fine but really the only thing that we need to worry about are getting the carbs and everything else will naturally pretty much fall into place. A few nuts here and there is really all that we need.

I remember not too long ago when I was working out and eating a high protein diet that included meat. I would eat string cheese, yogurt, chicken, eggs etc. every single day. I look back on that and wonder how I even had the energy to move. I used to have to preplan all of my meals to make sure that I had enough protein and I had to weigh my meat to make sure that I was eating enough. I'm so happy that I'm not eating that way anymore. I don't want to ever eat that way again. I'm happy going to my blender, throwing in 3 or 4 bananas, some orange juice, carrot juice, frozen cherries, and a mango..... blending and calling it breakfast at around 600 - 700 calories and almost pure carbs. Some people in the fitness world would rather starve than to eat that because they think the fruits have too much sugar but they are so wrong. If we continue to eat this high carb, low fat vegan diet, you actually can't get fat, you just can't. It's proven to be a very healthy way of living and I know that I'm pretty happy living this way.

I Woke Up To Pizza

I actually got up today and hopped into the shower but when I got out, I could smell pizza coming from the other room. My boyfriend still eats a regular SAD (standard American diet). Anyway, I was able to resist eating it but it's still hard sometimes. It was strange that somehow it smelled and looked tasty but at the same time it looked disgusting too. Anyway, here's to another vegan day.

The Rhyme and Reason

It was about 6 years ago that a Dr. told me that I had uterine fibroids and that my only option for treatment was to have a hysterectomy. I was roughly 30 years old and had dreams of having children. I couldn't even imagine giving up my organs without even looking any further into the matter. That day I went home and started researching on the internet to see if there was any other types of treatments. I did find a few different types of surgeries and such but they were highly over priced and without insurance I was surely out of luck. Finally after a long search, I ran into an article from a medical doctor no less about how she treated her own uterine fibroids by eating a raw vegan diet.

I was very intrigued by this so I kept reading and just absorbing the information as fast as I could. I went out and bought a dehydrator, a blender, a bunch or fresh fruits and veggies and then I began my journey. I have to admit. I did have a lot of health benefits but I still didn't know enough and my case was more than what just diet alone and a few months could solve. I wanted results right then though. I was impatient. I had dealt with heavy periods for so long that I was tired of it and I would do nearly anything to make it go away. After about a year I just slowly started to fall off of the wagon. My fibroids never did go all of the way down. Now after quite a few years, I've gotten back on the diet and I'm better than ever before.

I'm now doing an 80/10/10 diet, I wasn't doing that before. I'm also doing at least 90% raw every day and I've included supplements as well instead of solely relying on the raw foods alone. As the days go by I'll talk more and more about what I'm doing and why and how it's affecting me. So far I have gotten the fibroids to shrink at least by half. I'm not an affiliate of this product but I do recommend it and I am using it myself, it's Crystal Stars' Fibro Defense. Then I use a progesterone cream with wild yam, vit A, DIM, maca root, iron, and folic acid. This combination really seems to have helped a lot so I'll be sticking with it and hopefully the fibroids will continue to shrink.
